His namesake company went on to become a leading producer of automobiles, trucks and vans and the first major automotive manufacturer to introduce an electric starter. The iconic bow tie logo, though less well-known than the Chevrolet name, is recognizable the world over, with various theories on its origin, including that Durant, being the world traveler that he was, saw the motif on some mesmerizing hotel wallpaper in Paris.
