Do I Need a Forklift Driver’s License?

Forklift license make the hard work of moving large loads look like child’s play, but only trained operators are capable of driving them safely. According to the US Bureau of Labor and Statistics, workplace forklift accidents account for 7,000 injuries per year and 614 deaths.

This is why the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires forklift operators to be certified. You can get certified to operate a forklift by taking an OSHA-approved training course from an approved provider. These courses usually include classroom instruction and practical training. The trainer may conduct demonstrations and have you operate the forklift to evaluate your skills and knowledge of the equipment. The training is typically one to two days long.

Beyond the Basics: Unleashing the Full Potential of a Forklift Certified Professional

Getting a forklift certification will help you find jobs and increase your job security. It also protects you from life-threatening workplace injuries and shields your employer from unnecessary expenses, liability, and the disruption of business operations.

Once you’ve successfully completed your forklift training, you’ll receive an official forklift certificate or card. It includes the date you finished the course, your name, and a QR code that authenticates the card as valid.

If you work at more than one location or have to switch to a different type of forklift, you’ll need to get re-certified for each type of equipment that you use. It’s similar to driving lessons if you change cars. The new landscape, equipment, and even the signage could be completely different.
